About the SBC
The Sustainable Business Council envisions a network of vibrant local economies and caring communities that are based on renewable resources and clean, efficient practices that lead to a healthy environment, rewarding employment, and a high quality of life. 

To foster this vision, we provide education and technical assistance to help businesses, organizations, and individuals in Montana adopt sustainable practices that protect and enhance the environment, the region’s economy, and our local communities.

Education and Networking Events
The SBC hosts several events during the year to educate membership and the public about sustainable practices
and to promote networking among members and with like minded individuals.

Annual Sustainability Lecture
- Co-hosted with the UM School of business and, features a national speaker  
Sustainability Shots - Audience-led discussions focusing on specific areas of sustainability
Sustainability Awards Ceremony - Honors local community members for their dedication & innovation
Membership Appreciation Night - Celebrates the diversity and accomplishments of the SBC membership

Buy Local Program
The SBC educates the public on the benefits of buying locally through the following venues:
Buy Local Holiday Campaign - Educational campaign designed to increase local holiday shopping
Garden City Local Fest - A festival celebrating the qualitative benefits of shopping locally

Strive Towards Sustainability (STS) Assessment Program
The SBC offers a graduated recognition program, structured to identify organizations that are demonstrating a
serious commitment and progression toward eco-friendly business practices.  
STS participants have the opportunity to:
Assess - Attend a half-day introductory workshop and complete a nine-area assessment instrument
Improve - Participate in a guided goal setting program and utilize on-demand research support
Celebrate - Inform customers and enjoy additional publicity on the SBC site and in the SBC newsletter

Member-To-Member Benefits
Over 60 member businesses offer discounts to other SBC members. This means major savings on services ranging
from health care to cleaning services, retail to restaurants. The benefits alone make membership worthwhile and
work to strengthen Missoula's local economy. Member-To-Member benefits are open to individual and
organizational members.
