 Aikido of Missoula

About Aikido of Missoula: Aikido is a martial art based on harmony - with nature, self and other human beings. Aikido has its roots in the ancient fighting methods of Japan, but has been transformed into an art that ends cycles of violence and aggression and nurtures life. Its techniques reflect the waves, spirals and rotations of nature and are not dependent on physical strength for effectiveness. Practitioners learn to blend with an attack, absorbing it into a natural flow and grounding it harmlessly. Men and women of all ages are enriched by this noncompetitive martial path of beauty, power and balance. Aikido of Missoula is dedicated to the furtherance of the principles of Aikido in the individual, the community and the world. A full schedule of classes is available six days a week, including beginning, intermediate and open classes. Twice monthly Meditation and Aikido classes explore consciousness in movement and stillness. Young People\'s Aikido is offered twice weekly for ages 7-14. Aikido of Missoula is affiliated with Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, a nonprofit educational organization headed by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan. ASU is affiliated with World Aikido Headquarters.

Sustainable Practices, Products, & Services:

Sustainability is at the heart of Aikido training. Our model is one of mutual prosperity. We seek to rebalance and reconcile rather than injure or dominate. We look to find positive solutions to conflictual situations. We stress harmonious and respectful interactions and encourage a healthy lifestyle. At Aikido of Missoula, we understand that sustainability is vital to the survival of the planet. Sustainability practices are threaded throughout our daily and long-term functioning. Some examples include use of recycled paper products, eco-friendly cleaning products and the use of community dishware and flatware for large events. We occupy and maintain a beautiful space within the historic Union Hall building in downtown Missoula, where we’ve been for 20 years.
